Betty Joan Murphy

Betty Joan Murphy, 77, of Macon, passed away Monday, January 6, 2020.  A memorial service will be held Friday, January 10, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. at Hart’s Chapel of the Cupola.  The family will greet friends following the service.

Betty, lovingly known as Mom and Grandma, was born in Davenport, Iowa to the late Clark Edwin and Angelita Ann Quinones Sipes.  She touched the lives of all those she met.  Always kind at heart, but not afraid to speak her mind, she loved her family and was very proud to speak of their accomplishments, whether they were big or small.  Family was very important to her and she was always telling her kids and grandkids to be careful and that she loved them.  Betty was a follower of Christ and His truths and teachings helped her to navigate through the tough times in her life, most recently, her battle with cancer.   Ready to face her challenge head on, she accepted her cancer diagnosis for what it was and was determined to beat it.  Betty's faith in Jesus gave her hope that, regardless of her life's outcome, she would one day see her sweet Heavenly Father, along with her earthly father, Edwin, whom she missed dearly.  Betty's family, although in mourning for their loss of her presence here on earth, are rejoicing for her new life with streets of gold and no more pain or sorrow.

Betty is survived by her loving husband, Scott Murphy of Macon; children, Carol (Richard) Shepard of Macon, Kimberly Kay (Darren) Miller of Moline, Illinois, and Paul Miller of Fort Myers, Florida; grandchildren, Jennifer (Michael) Hutchinson of Lizella, Georgia, Kayla Shepard of Macon, Heather (Michael) Kurtenbach of East Moline, Illinois, and Amanda (Steve) Purvis of Coal Valley, Illinois; 7  great grandchildren; and sisters, Sandra Mockmore and Susan Howell, both of Arizona.
