Betty JoAgnes Hunter, 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, on January 10, 2026, in Macon, GA at her daughter’s home. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm, Thursday, January 15, 2026, at the Jones County chapel of Hart’s Mortuary. Burial will be at Macon Memorial Park. The family will greet friends Wednesday evening from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Jones County chapel.

Born on March 12, 1942, to the late Agnes F. Minter and Willie Thomas “Bo” Minter, in Macon, GA. She worked many years in the insurance industry and as a bookkeeper. Her favorite hobbies included cooking, baking, and gardening. Some of the fondest memories her grandchildren have are with her teaching them how to bake at very young ages. She loved her children, grandchildren, and greats immensely. She always said her grandbabies were her motivation to keep going every day. Her grandchildren/greats were her most prized possessions. She was a Jehovah’s Witness for a large part of her life. One of her favorite phrases was “Jehovah is my refuge and my strength.”

She was preceded in death by her son, James Phillip Howell, her husband, JD Hunter, her brother Roy Minter, her niece, Stephanie Minter, her nephew, Chris Minter and parents, Agnes F. Minter and Willie Thomas “Bo” Minter.

Left to cherish her memory are her children; Kathy Brock (Jimmy) of Macon and Lisa Bennett of Macon; Bonus children, Mike Hunter (Kathy) of Tennessee, Judy Taze (Earl) of Tennessee, Andy Hunter of Tennessee, Lisa Hunter Willoughby of Tennessee, and David Hunter (Khristanne) of Tennessee. Her siblings, Leonard (Bubba) Minter of Macon, Faye Minter of Macon, and James Minter (Geneva) of Macon. Her grandchildren; Tabatha Reid (Duane) of Gray, Heather Singleton (Matt) of Gray, Trey Brock of Macon, Logan Chastain (Wesley) of Macon, Phillip Howell, Daniel (Kaci) Howell, and Ricky Howell. Great-grandchildren; Zackery Reid (Amber), Zoey Reid (Josh), Mason Singleton, Myles Singleton, Maddie Singleton, Zuri Reid, Zola Reid, Ziggy Reid, Zaylee Reid, Zeland Reid, and Zander Reid, Kaden and Scarlett Chastain; and two great-great grandchildren Bria and Kase Maurer, along with many bonus grands and greats as well as many nieces, nephews and many extended family members and friends.

Hart’s Mortuary, Jones County Chapel, 307 Pecan Lane, Gray, GA 31032, has charge of arrangements.
