Betty Beck Henderson passed from her earthly life into the next realm of existence on Saturday, June 17, 2017. Betty was born on July 11, 1930 in Macon, GA. She was the daughter of Hattie Howell Beck and Otis Sylvester Beck. She lived with her parents, younger brother, James, and loving grandmother, Carrie Howell. Betty was educated at Fort Hawkins Elementary School, Miller High School, and GAB Business School. After completing her education, Betty went to work at City Bank and Trust Company. On July 8, 1950, Betty married James Freeman Henderson. After a few years of marriage, they were blessed with three children, Julie Pamela, Betty Jill, and James Freeman Henderson, Jr. After the birth of her first child, Betty quit work outside the home and became a fulltime homemaker. Later, she loved working part time as a substitute teacher at Mattie Wells Elementary School, where her children attended school. After the children were out of school, Betty and Freeman moved from their long-time home on Henderson Road in Jones County to the River North community. Betty enjoyed tennis and social activities there for many years until poor health made it necessary to make a move to The Baptist Village in North Macon. Betty was tenderly cared for by her loving husband and children and the thoughtful neighbors at The Baptist Village. Church was a vital part of Betty's life. She was a member of Cross Keys United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She taught Sunday School and participated in women's organizations there. Upon moving to North Macon, Betty and Freeman joined Martha Bowman United Methodist Church and have loved and appreciated their church family there greatly. Betty's illness kept her from participating in as many activities as she would have liked, but her love and devotion to the church were steadfast. Betty was a member of the Nan Freeman Sunday School Class and had a very special affection for this thoughtful, loving group of friends. Betty is survived by her husband of almost 67 years, James Freeman Henderson, Sr. Children - Julie Henderson Henderson (Herald/Sam), Jill Henderson Quinn (Jim), and James Freeman Henderson, Jr. (Julie).
