Betty Don Harrison Shelby, 89, met her Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 21, 2016. Betty was born November 4, 1926, in Phenix City, Alabama, to John Thomas Harrison and Bertha Harden Harrison. She was the youngest of four children. Betty was a faithful Christian and a member of Vineville United Methodist Church where she used her God-gifted voice to sing in the choir. In 2001, she performed at St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, Italy. She was a long-time member of the George S. Jones Bible Class. Betty was an avid golfer and member of Idle Hour Country Club and served as President of Bowden Ladies Golf Auxiliary in 1978. She had a passion for gardening and was a past Chairman of the Macon Federated Garden Club. In high school, Betty was the captain of the Central High Red Devil Cheerleading Squad in Phenix City. She retired as a stock transfer clerk from Bibb Manufacturing in 1965. Betty was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her loving husband James Donald Shelby, Sr., her parents, a sister, Sara Harrison Nichols, and two brothers, Arthur and Howard Harrison. Betty is survived by her two sons - James Donald Shelby, Jr. (Nancy Beckham Shelby) of Flovilla, Georgia, and Glenn Thomas Shelby, Sr. (Diane Wells Shelby) of Lizella, Georgia; six grandchildren - Elizabeth Shelby Baldwin (Chuck); James Donald Shelby, III (Kelly); Stephanie Shelby Williams (Ricky); Glenn Thomas Shelby, Jr. (Candice); John Paul Shelby; and Garrett Harrison Shelby; and ten great-grandchildren -Timmothy Seipler, Katherine and Chandler Baldwin (children of Beth and Chuck); Georgia and Evan Shelby (children of Jamin and Kelly); Savannah and Jackson Williams (children of Stephanie and Ricky); Braelyn and Cynclair Shelby (children of Glenn, Jr. and Candice); and Harrison Cooper Shelby (son of John Paul). Visitation will be held at Hart's Mortuary on Cherry Street, Macon, Georgia, on Sunday, April 24, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Vineville United Methodist Church on Monday, April 25, at 11:00 a.m. with interment at Riverside Cemetery following the service.
