Betty Hart Darity, 92, of Macon, Georgia, passed away Sunday, August 18, 2024. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Hart’s Mortuary on Cherry Street, with the Reverend Chip Miller officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery.
Daughter of the late Joseph L. Hart and Louise Gaffney Hart, Betty was born on February 19, 1932, in Buena Vista, Georgia. She was a 1950 graduate of A.L. Miller High School and continued her education at Georgia Teachers College, now known as Georgia Southern University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Music Education. Betty's professional life was marked by her dedication and hard work; she retired from Trust Company Bank and later worked as a bookkeeper for her family's business, LithoPress.
Always one to love a good joke, Betty had a wonderful and keen sense of humor, an infectious laugh, and a smile that would light up a room. She was a peaceful and joyful person who was always there with comfort and wisdom. She was content with the Lord, and she was a prayerful friend to all. She spent many hours with the Lord in prayer, praise, and song.
Betty was an avid gardener, who grew her own food and shared it with family and friends for decades. She always said that being outside in a garden and working in God’s green earth was the closest she ever felt to the Lord. When she no longer gardened, she still found time to pull weeds and tend to her small flower garden.
Betty’s love for music, especially singing, touched many lives. As a young woman, she would sing with big bands and bring joy to countless listeners. Her talent and love for music continued to resonate as a choir member at First Presbyterian Church, where she remained active in her faith and fellowship. Betty walked faithfully with the Lord throughout her life, a journey she embraced wholeheartedly. Today, her loved ones find comfort knowing she is now in the arms of Jesus.
Betty is survived by her two sons, Derek Thomas Darity (Julie) and Dodd Hart Darity, both of Macon; granddaughters, Jennifer Fleming (Adam) of Madison, Alabama and Laura Murray (Derrick) of Macon; five great-grandchildren: Isaac, Paisley, Seth, Sarah, and Mason; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Thomas Darity, Jr. and sister, Helen Price.
