Betty Moose Broome, 87, died February 11, 2022, at Zebulon Park Health and Rehabilitation Center in Macon, Georgia, where she had been since late December after a fall resulting in a broken hip.
Betty was born in Cabarrus County, North Carolina on November 1, 1934, where she resided for most of her life. She moved to Macon in 2014 to be near her daughter. She received her undergraduate degree in Education from Mars Hill College, and her Master's degree in English from Appalachian State University. She taught school in both the Cabarrus County and Mecklenburg County school systems for over 30 years. She enjoyed her neighborhood walks, reading Christian literature, and church fellowship. Fashion was a lifelong passion of hers, having also worked part-time at Ivey’s and Dillard’s in Charlotte, North Carolina for many years, from which she amassed quite a collection of outfits and accessories.
Betty was a lifelong Baptist with her most recent church membership at First Baptist Church of Concord, North Carolina. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star at the Cabarrus Lodge in Concord, having attained the position of Worthy Matron.
She was predeceased by her parents, Guy Daniel and Pauline Calloway Moose both of Concord, N.C. Surviving her are her loving husband of 65 years, Jack Lamar Broome, of Macon, her son, Kevin Lamar Broome (Kelly), of Kannapolis, NC, and her daughter, Tanya Broome Edge (Wesley), of Macon. Also surviving her is a sister, Sharon Moose Humberger (Ted), of Concord, NC and daughter-n-law, Colleen Broome. Additionally, she is survived by 4 grandchildren: Sarah Broome Whitlow (David), Phillip James Broome (Brittney), both of Concord, NC, Anneliese Edge Reagan (Wesley) and James Wesley Lowery Edge both of Macon, five great-grandchildren and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, February 20, 2022, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Macon with the Reverend Bryan Hinson officiating and the Reverend James Smith assisting. Burial will be in the church Memorial Garden.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 753 College Street, Macon, GA 31201.
