Macon-Mrs. Betty Persons Ballard, age 79, widow of Lucian Benton Ballard, died Sunday, November 29, 2009. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at 2:00PM at Hart's Mortuary at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road with the Reverend Malcom Davis officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to American Cancer Society, PO Box 4406, Macon, GA 31201; or Mulberry Street United Methodist Church, PO Box 149, Macon, GA 31202; or Hospice of Central Georgia, PO Box 6533, Macon, GA 31208; or Ronald McDonald House, 1160 Forsyth St., Macon, GA 31201.
Mrs. Ballard was a graduate of A.L. Miller High School and attended Huntingdon College, Montgomery, Alabama. She was a member of the Mulberry Street United Methodist Church, charter parent member of the Piedmont Academy (founding parent), and the Hill and Dale Garden Club. Mrs. Ballard was a member of Historic Macon.
Mrs. Ballard was the daughter of the late Henry Pinkney Persons, Sr. and Sarah Ruth Benton Persons. She is survived by her three daughters, Beth Curles (Tommy) of Cordele, GA, Becky Lee (Tommy) of Knoxville, TN, and Ruth Suddreth (Bob) of Concord, NC; six grandchildren, Betsy Curles, Ashley Lee, Matthew Lee, Sarah Suddreth, Rob Suddreth, and Lucy Suddreth; brother, Henry Pinkney Persons, Jr. of Macon; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Bertha Wardrick, Alexis Fitzgerald, Evelyn Robertson, Jacinthia Curry, Mae Minor, and Janice Gail for their wonderful care and dedication to Betty Ballard.
