Betty Shipp Anderson Murphy

October 15, 1925 — April 8, 2013

Betty Shipp Anderson Murphy, 87, of Savannah, Georgia, died peacefully Monday. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at 3:00PM at Riverside Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Wednesday, from 2:00PM until 3:00PM at the funeral home. Remembrances may be made to First Baptist Church, 209 South Miller Street, Fort Valley, Georgia 31030. Betty was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Percy Shipp of Macon, Georgia. She was a graduate of Wesleyan College with a degree in fine arts. Betty taught art in the Peach County School System and later owned and operated Jack and Jill Kindergarten. She was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Fort Valley and used her artistic talents in her church and community. In 1964 Betty was named "Third District Homemaker of the Year". Betty was preceded in death by husband, Murray Anderson, husband, Fred Murphy, daughters, Carol Tyner and Sylvia Cummings, and beloved sister, Mary Louise Dukes. Betty is survived by her daughter, Brenda Carver (Roy) of Savannah, Georgia and a son, Murray Anderson, Jr. of Warner Robins, Georgia; grandchildren, Dr. Amy Tyner Van Dyke (Mike), Freddie Cummings (Heather), Dottie Tucker (Mike), Wade Tyner, Casey Carver (Sara) and Tyler Carver; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
