Bernard Stephen "Steve" O'Nan

June 26, 1944 — April 27, 2026

Bernard Stephen O'Nan, Jr. (Steve), 81, beloved Father, Husband, Son, Father-in-law, and Grandfather, was called to his eternal resting place on April 27, 2026. He entered this world on June 26, 1944, in Macon, GA, born to Bernard and Adnah O'Nan. He is survived by his son Pat O'Nan; daughter-in-law Tami O'Nan; grandson Thomas O'Nan and granddaughter Addie O'Nan; and his stepchildren: David James (Sharon), Scott James (Kathy), Laura James Mullis and Mark James (Candi).

The family will have a private graveside at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Steve lived his entire life in Macon and graduated from Lanier High School in 1963. He was in a fraternity and sang in the high school band. After high school, he attended Georgia Southern University. Early in his career he worked for the City of Macon as Director of Grants and Resources and was appointed to the Middle Georgia Planning Commission. He was a Safety/Personnel Manager at BFI Waste Systems. He also worked at Tribble & Richardson and Walmart.

Steve was passionate about caring for his loved ones. He is preceded in death by his mother (Adnah Tomlinson Eckert), wife (Lynette) and son (Brandon)...whom he all loved dearly and dedicated his life to caring for them well. He loved his family and his dogs, Honeycakes and Sugarbear, who signed every card you ever received from Steve. He also loved old movies, UGA football, the Atlanta Braves, music of many genres like Motown, classic rock and especially The Eagles. He especially loved sharing a cold Miller Lite with family and friends. His entire life he enjoyed supporting the local Macon establishments like the Steak and Egg, Grey Goose, Jim Shaw's and Fresh Air Barbeque. Steve was never in a rush and savored time, experiences and stories with others. We will miss him dearly.
