Benny Ralph Waugh, Sr.

Macon-Benny R. Waugh, Sr. died Tuesday, October 27, 2009. Funeral Services will be held at 4:00PM on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at Hart's at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Rd, with Dr. Tim Bagwell and the Reverend Jack Key officiating. Burial will be private in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be between 6:00-8:00PM on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at Hart's at the Cupola. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105 or Martha Bowman United Methodist Church, 500 Bass Road, Macon GA 31210.

Mr. Waugh was born January 23, 1933 in Gadsen, AL to the late Percy Ray Waugh and the late Margaret Hardin Waugh. He graduated from Lanier High School in 1951 where he was a sports editor for the Poet Leader. He was a graduate of Mercer University in 1955 where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and Fraternity President. Mr. Waugh served in Germany as a United States Army 1st Lieutenant. He was one of the founding members of Macon Midget Football and its 1st President. Mr. Waugh received the 1st Service to Mankind Award given by the Sertoma Club in 1975. He was a founding member of the Western Little League and devoted many years to the development of youth sports in the Macon area. He coached Pearl Stephens to two Pony Bowl Championships.

After returning from Germany, Mr. Waugh was a private business owner. Later he brought Kinnett Dairy and Golden Flake Potato Chips to the Middle Georgia area. He served as Sales Manager of Dunlap/Youmans Chevrolet and Jackson Oldsmobile Izuzu for many years. He was a member of Martha Bowman United Methodist Church.

Mr. Waugh was married to Anna Carolyn Hutto on March 2, 1956. He is survived by his wife of Macon; his three children, Carol Lynn Waugh (Capt. Matt) Straughan of Ponte Vedra, FL, Patricia Waugh Stietenroth of Macon, and Benny Ralph Waugh, Jr. of Montgomery, AL; three grandchildren, Anna Caroline Straughan of Ponte Vedra, FL, Anna Claire Stietenroth of Macon, and John Andrew Waugh of Montgomery, AL.
