Bennie Lorraine Nelson Johnson

Bennie Nelson Johnson went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 9, 2008. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, October 12, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Mabel White Memorial Baptist Church with the Reverend Joe McDaniel and Dr. E.C. Sheehan officiating. The interment will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery.

Bennie Johnson was born February 20, 1921 in McIntyre, Georgia to the late Lillie Hudson Nelson and Ben Wesley Nelson and was the wife of the late Paul Emory Johnson. She was predeceased by her five sisters, Rheba Horton, Myrtle Fuller, Nellie Chandler, Ruth Ussery, and Ellene Leslie, all of Macon. She resided in Macon most of her life. She was a former member of the Mikado Baptist Church. Throughout her life she was committed and active in many aspects of her church life.

At Mabel White she was an enthusiastic and integral member of the church choir. For over 60 years she taught in various capacities including Sunday School, Baptist Training Union, and Bible studies. She organized and coordinated the church's benevolence efforts providing support and sustenance to hundreds of residents in need. She believed n the importance of education and during her retirement years, served as the substitute teacher in the Bibb County Schools. She was a loving and generous Christian lady who touched many lives with her remarkable grace, sustaining faith, and indomitable courage and resilence. Indeed, she was a devoted servant of the Lord.

Left to remember and continue her legacy are, daughter and son in law; Glenda and Joseph Bouzek of Macon, Granddaughter, Lisa Lewis of Baltimore, Maryland, grandson, Robert M. Lewis, Jr. of Atlanta; niece, Kay Higgison of Stockbridge, Ga.; niece, Carolyn Collins and husband, J. C. Collins of Cumming, Ga.; Great nieces, Pamela Sanders, Karen Arrington, Debra Blanken, Dawn Kerns, Denise Jones, April Potts, Dawn Tucker, Gay Wade; Great nephews, Rodney Silvey, Don Collins, Daryl Leslie, Derek Leslie; Cousins, Myrtice Nelson Willliams, Mildred Nelson Dove, Melba Nelson Veal.

Memorials may be made to Mabel White Memorial Baptist Church Benevolence Fund, 1415 Bass Road, Macon, Ga. 31210; or to the Methodist Home for Children or to the charity of the donor's choice.

The family will meet with friends from 5:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at Hart's at the Cupola at 6324 Peake Road.

The family expresses their appreciation to the countless friends who supported and loved Mrs. Johnson during her shut in years. Most especially, we remember with genuine appreciation those who loved Mother during the most challenging times of her life, including angels in residence, Thelma Glover, Vivian Scott, Fannie Pettigrew, Denise Coley, and the Stafford Suites Staff at Carlyle Place.
