Benjamin Russell “Rusty” Peacock

December 28, 1958 — January 22, 2025

Forsyth

Benjamin Russell “Rusty” Peacock, 66, passed in his home during a snowy night on January 22, 2025, after a life filled with love and family and a courageous 10-year battle with cancer.

Rusty was born December 28, 1958, to Jean and Cecil Wayne Peacock. He was the middle child of three boys. He was born in Quincy, Florida, where he attended Robert F. Monroe High School. He went on to graduate from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Building Construction. After college, he moved to San Antonio, Texas, to begin his career. This is where he met his wife, Sherrie. The two were married in Quincy and would be celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary this August. They moved to Marietta, Georgia, where they spent most of their life. They grew their family in 1988 when they had their only child, a daughter, Michelle. Rusty had a distinguished career in Atlanta. He worked at Young Contracting from 1991 to 2020. He became an owner and the Executive Vice President in 1998. His efforts and many years of service were instrumental in the formation and success of the company.

After his retirement, he enjoyed time traveling, fishing, hunting, and being with his family and friends. In 2024, he and his wife, Sherrie, moved to Forsyth, Georgia, and built their dream home to be close to their daughter, son-in-law, and two grandsons.

Rusty was a devoted son, husband, brother, father, father-in-law, grandfather (Papa), uncle, cousin, and friend.  He was known for his huge heart, strong faith, great generosity, selflessness, great wit, wisdom, silly dance moves, love for the Florida Gators, passion for life, and a fierce love for his family and friends.

Rusty is survived by his wife, Sherrie Peacock; daughter, Michelle Harbin (Trevor); two brothers, David Peacock (Martha), and Tom Peacock (Karen); two grandsons, Miller and Beckett Harbin; his step-father, Charlie Macon; and lots of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Peacock, and his mother, Jean Peacock Macon.
