Barbara Elizabeth Janus Scheve

Barbara Elizabeth Janus Scheve, 93, of Macon, GA, passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at Fountain Blue Rehab and Nursing Center of natural causes.  Inurnment will be held Thursday, April 6, 2023, at 2:30 p.m. at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Milledgeville, Georgia.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army, 1925 Broadway, Macon, GA 31201, Boys Town, 14100 Crawford St. Boys Town, NE 68010, or Women’s Military Memorial, Memorial Ave. & Schley Dr., Arlington, VA 22203.

Daughter of the late Julian and Elizabeth Gunder Janus, Ms. Scheve was a graduate of Austin High School, class of 1947. After high school she was employed as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone until her enlistment in the Air Force in 1952. During her Air Force career, she served at SAC Headquarters, Offut Air Force Base, Nebraska. Her follow-on assignment was to Wiesbaden, Germany where she earned the German Occupation Medal. She also met her husband-to-be, William J. Scheve JR. She was a lifetime member of VFW Post 658, a contributing member of the Women’s Military Memorial Foundation in Washington D.C.

Ms. Scheve attended St. Peter Claver Catholic Church. She was a member of the Wesleyan Seniors Fitness Group. She enjoyed bird watching, old movies, and spending time with her dogs.

Ms. Scheve is survived by her sons William J. Scheve III (Darla) of Macon, Robert E. Scheve of Macon, and Laurel H. Betros (Lance) of Salem, Oregon; grandchildren, Amanda Leckey, Holly E. Betros, Heather E. Betros, and Rosemary C. Betros.

In addition to her parents, Ms. Scheve was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, William J. Scheve Jr, granddaughter, Kellie Scheve and brother, Don Janus.
