Barbara Handley Roberts

(1927 - 2014) Barbara Handley Roberts passed away on August 12, 2014. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2014, at the chapel of Hart's The Cupola, 6324 Peake Road at 10:30 a.m. The Reverend Alan Benson will officiate. The family will greet friends immediately following the service at Hart's at the Cupola. Burial will be private at Riverside Cemetery. A life-long resident of Macon, Mrs. Roberts was educated in the Bibb County Schools. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Daniel Handley, Sr. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert Daniel Handley, Jr. Mrs. Roberts was a talented homemaker who devoted her life to her husband, children and church. She was an active member of Riverside United Methodist Church for more than 40 years where she was a member of the Roundtable Class, the Altar Guild, the United Methodist Women and a charter member of the Board for the Riverside UMC Child Care Center. Mrs. Roberts is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, Jack Eugene Roberts, Sr., and four children: Gena Franklin (George) of Macon; Jane Coleman (Bill) of Jacksonville, FL; Jack (Jay) Eugene Roberts, Jr. of Macon, and Shelley Hudspeth (Eddie) of Bonaire. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Nicole Franklin Fuller (Shane) of Newnan, Mary Reid Franklin Carter (Gilbert) of Macon, Andrew Coleman of Jacksonville, FL; Sarah Coleman Trickey (Kevin) of Orlando, FL, Cody Roberts and Marion Roberts of Macon; Anna Hudspeth and Rachel Hudspeth of Bonaire; and by 5 great-grandchildren: Katy Fuller, Mary Beth Fuller, Cooper Fuller, Jackson Trickey and Eugenia Carter. The family wishes to thank the outstanding and compassionate staff at Carlyle Place in both Cambridge Court and Harrington House.
