Macon- Ashley P. Cox, 84, of Macon, died Tuesday, January 05, 2010. Memorial services will be held at 2:00PM Friday, January 8, 2010 in the chapel of Hart's Mortuary, Cherry Street, with Dr. Robert Setzer officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to First Baptist Church Renovation Fund, 511 High Place, Macon, GA 31201. The Reverend Cox was a longtime member of First Baptist Church. At the age of seventeen, he joined the Army Air Corps during World War II. Near the end of the war, he was stationed in England, working in journalism, and was honorably discharged in January 1946. He married Cathryne Word in November 1952. The Reverend Cox attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He served at the Georgia Baptist Children's Home and retired from the Georgia Industrial Home in Macon. The Reverend Cox is survived by his sons, Ashley Patterson Cox, III (Lois) of Durham, NC, Todd Word Cox (Judy) of Tahlequah, OK and John Mark Cox of Deep Step, GA; grandchildren, Kristin Nicole Denfield (David) and Sara Ashley Cox, both of Durham, NC; sister, Oreta Cox Cook of Atlanta; two great-grandchildren, Ella and Daniel Denfield; step-grandchildren, Jamie Ray Lee of Tahlequah, OK and Cassie Ray of New York, NY.
