Arthur James Shearer

Arthur James Shearer, 79, passed away Friday, June 17, 2016. A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00P.M. on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 4074 Chambers Road with Father Vernon Knight officiating. Burial will be private. A Rosary will be said on Monday, June 20, 2016 at 6:00P.M. at Hart's Mortuary at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road. The family will greet friends following the Rosary. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren as well as his friends and any animal he encountered. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Middle Georgia Community Food Bank, 4490 Ocmulgee E. Blvd., Macon, GA 31217 or to All About Animals, 101 Riverside Drive, Macon, GA 31201. Mr. Shearer was born in Clinton, MA to the late Frank James Shearer and Ruth Young Shearer. He was a veteran of the Unites States Navy and the United States Army. Mr. Shearer retired from the Army in 1979 after 23 years of service achieving the rank of Sargent First Class. He served in the Korean War and the Vietnam War, the latter of which he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm Device. Mr. Shearer retired from the United States Postal Service after many years of service. He was preceded in death by his sister, Marjorie Shearer Chisolm as well as his parents. Survivors include his wife, Mairead Herron Shearer; son, Shaun James Shearer (Julie); daughter, Ruth Shearer Lancaster (Christopher); grandchildren, Eleanor Grace Lancaster, Micah Colby Shearer, Gavin James Shearer, Maximilian Gray Lancaster, Malcom Souther Lancaster and Josephine Finley Lancaster; two nieces and one nephew.
