Arthur Panish

January 3, 1943 — March 11, 2018

Services for Arthur Panish will be held at Highland Hills Baptist Church on May 12, 2018 at 11:30 AM with Reverend Doctor Jake Hall officiating. Mr. Panish died as the result of an automobile accident on March 11, 2018. Mr. Panish was born in New York City on January 3, 1943. He studied at City College of New York and graduated from Eastern Michigan University at Ann Arbor. He taught Spanish at Pine Bush High School, at the hamlet of the same name. Mr. Panish played Latin-American rock-and-roll to the delight of his students, as well as led his classes in debates in Spanish; about current issues, such as, “long hair for boys”. He loved to travel and hitched-hiked some 30,000 miles, meeting new people and sharing his love of music. Mr. Panish believed that adults once played as children, and they should continue to play as they grew older. To him, play was not exclusive to children. Though circumstances later created a life on the streets, he was a lesson for all who crossed his path. He will be missed. Mr. Panish is succeeded by his sister, Geraldine Panish of New York City and a community here in Macon that will remember him as a quiet and dignified man. Contributions may be made to Daybreak, a project of DePaul USA, 174 Walnut Street, Macon, GA 31201. Volunteers are always welcome.
