Anthony "Tony" Proffitt

Anthony “Tony” David Proffitt, 79, of Macon, Georgia, passed away Thursday, July 20, 2023. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at Hart’s Chapel at the Cupola.  The family will greet friends for a visitation and Celebration of Life following the service. Everyone is invited to enjoy brunch, share hugs and stories.

Son of the late Paul Proffitt and Kathryn Morrison Barnard, Tony was born in Glasgow, Kentucky and raised in Bowling Green, Kentucky until he joined the United States Army from 1963-1965.  He was stationed in Germany and proudly served with the Military Police.  In 1978, Tony attended night school at St. Leo’s College in Florida, where he earned his BA in Business. He worked 33 years in finance and banking, resulting in six moves in Florida, Georgia, Maryland, and North Carolina.  In 1998, he and Bebe moved to Macon, Georgia where they opened and operated their mortgage company, First Southern Guarantee, for twelve years.  After retiring, he worked for Census Bureau in management, and as a substitute teacher for Bibb County for many years.

Tony always enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling, and doing yard work.  He loved to read, play card games, and watch all sports, especially college football (Go Gators!) His greatest joy was spending time with family and friends at their second home on Lake Blackshear in Cordele, Georgia.

In addition to his parents, Tony was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Terry Proffitt (1964), from Bowling Green, Kentucky; and his faithful companion, Scooter.

Tony is survived by and was a loving husband to Bebe Williams for 37 years; proud father of Anthony Proffitt (Jeannine Fowler) of Ft. Myers, Florida and Julie Tucker (Matt) of Orlando, Florida; and doting grandfather to Madi and Myla Tucker. He is also survived by his sister, Sue Rogers (Jimmy) of Bowling Green, Kentucky; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
