Anne Karen Zimmerman, 69, died June 30, 2022.
Born into life August 27, 1952, in Chicago, Illinois, Anne's early years were spent living in Park Forest, Illinois. In 1959 she moved with her family to Wisconsin, first living in Milwaukee before settling in West Allis. In West Allis Anne attended Parkway Grade School and Lane Junior High School. Anne graduated from West Allis Nathan Hale High School in 1971. Between 1971 and 2006 Anne lived and worked in the Milwaukee metropolitan area. Alternating between group homes and private apartments, Anne maintained an independent lifestyle. In 2006 Anne moved to Macon, Georgia, to be closer to her Mother (Kay) and sister (Jenny). In 2016 Anne moved into Chaplinwood Health and Rehab Center located in Milledgeville, Georgia, where she spent her final years.
Anne, an avid Girl Scout, was extremely fond of camping, swimming, and sailing. She spent many enjoyable summers at Camp Alice Chester or swimming in the backyard pool. Anne also vacationed in Door County, Wisconsin, and Florida with her family. Anne's first, and favorite, pet was her beloved miniature Schnauzer Gidget; this experience translated into a lifelong attraction for the breed. Anne attended Calvary Methodist Church in West Allis and was an active member in both the children and adult choirs for many years.
Anne is and will be sorely missed. She will always be remembered for her fiercely independent spirit; her struggle to resist being defined or limited by her physical disabilities; her devotion and deep love for her family; and, of course, her Soaps....
Anne, preceded in death by her loving parents - Kay and Jeremy Zimmerman - and doting grandparents - Helen Zimmerman and Gladys and Hubert Ropp - is now reunited with them in the heavenly realm prepared for all by her precious Savior, Jesus Christ.
Survivors include her brother John Zimmerman and sister-in-law Diana Haskell of Ballwin, Missouri; her sister Jennifer Zimmerman and sister-in-law Yvonne Miller of Macon; her sister Sarah Klein and brother-in-law Brian Klein of Greensburg, Pennsylvania; eight nieces and nephews; and three grand-nieces. Memorial contributions reflecting the love and care that Anne gave and received may be made to Easter Seals, Girl Scouts, Schnauzer Love Rescue, Meals on Wheels, or Affinis Hospice.
A private service for the interment of ashes will be held at a future date at the Memorial Garden for Mariner Sands Chapel in Stuart, Florida.
