Andrew Frank Stevens was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Lois and Frank Stevens in 1953.
The youngest of Frank’s six children, Andrew’s siblings were Ray, Roger, Robert, Paul, and Leslie. When Andrew was nine, the family moved to Macon, Georgia.
Andrew graduated from Southwest High School in Macon, Georgia, in 1971.
After graduation, he became a carpenter and millwright – a proud member of Carpenters Local #144.
Andrew met Lucy Stevens (née Impink) in 1977, and they married six months later at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Macon on February 18, 1978. They moved to Jones County shortly thereafter. In the words of one of Andrew’s favorite songs by Wet Willie, he “changed from city boy to country man.”
They welcomed their first son, Bradley Emerson Stevens, in 1981 and their daughter, Amanda Leigh Roberts (née Stevens), in 1986.
Over the years, Andrew and his brother, Paul, built family homes by hand, helped by friends and extended family. The quiet property by the creek was a peaceful home for him and his young family, and all recall fond memories of helping raise the beams and hammer the shingles as they got together over the weekends to build, barbecue, and dance and sing along to country music and rock and roll.
Andrew became a grandfather in 2020 to Frank and in 2022 to Ellie. Andrew was a reserved and introverted man, but his children and grandchildren made him smile. A favorite memory of his later years is splitting graham crackers in half after every dinner – one half for him and one half for his dog, Ruby.
After a recurrence of cancer, Andrew passed peacefully on December 27, surrounded by his loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, and niece, Kelly Stevens, and survived and remembered by his loving wife of 45 years, Lucy; children, Brad (Sierra) and Mandy (Tyler); and his grandchildren; sister-in-law, Dede Stevens; sister, Leslie Nelson (Donald), nephew, Matthew; and extended family.
