Amelia Brumby Mahone

Amelia Brumby Mahone died Sunday, August 28, 2011. Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at Christ Episcopal Church. A family burial will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery. The Reverend Harriette Simmons will officiate. The family will receive friends Monday, August 29th from 4:00 - 5:00 PM at Carlyle Place and at the home of Lawrence and Andrea Williford from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Mrs. Mahone was born July 13, 1925 in Porterdale, GA and moved to Macon as young child. She graduated from A.L. Miller High School and the University of Georgia, where she was a member of the Phi Mu sorority. For more than 25 years, Mrs. Mahone taught 5th grade in Bibb County at T.D. Tinsley, Alexander IV and Stratford Academy. Mrs. Mahone was a lifelong member of Christ Episcopal Church in Macon where she had served on the Vestry and as Senior Warden. She was a member of the Colonial Dames, Junior League of Macon, and Idle Hour Country Club. She was an avid golfer. She was the daughter of the late Lawrence Remley Brumby and the late Amelia Love Pride Brumby. She was preceded in death by her husband Hamilton Pitts Mahone and her sister Catherine Brumby Carr. She is survived by her son, Lawrence Brumby Williford, daughter-in-law, Andrea Gillespie Williford, grandsons Lawrence Grier Williford and Hamilton Hatcher Williford. In lieu for flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Christ Episcopal Church, 582 Walnut Street, Macon, GA 31201 or Stratford Academy, 6010 Peake Road, Macon, GA 31210. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Harrington House at Carlyle Place for their devoted care of Mrs. Mahone. Hart's Mortuary and Crematory, Cherry Street, has charge of the arrangements.
