Amelia Anne Alderman, M.D.

Macon-Funeral services for Amelia Anne Alderman, M.D. will be held at 2:00PM, at First Baptist Church of Christ, Macon, Georgia, on Sunday, August 9, 2009, led by Dr. Robert Setzer, followed by Graveside Services at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Cochran, Georgia, at 4:00PM. Dr. Alderman lost a year long battle with brain cancer on Friday, August 7, 2009.

Dr. Alderman had been in the private practice of psychiatry in Macon since 1988. She held staff privileges and admitted patients at Coliseum Psychiatric Hospital and the Medical Center of Central Georgia. She was also recently employed by Central State Hospital in Milledgeville. She had served on the faculty of Mercer University School of Medicine, leading rounds and lecturing in psychiatry. She was Board certified in psychiatry and also in Geriatric, Forensic, addiction, and adolescent psychiatry.

Dr. Alderman received her Bachelor of Arts degree at Wesleyan College and her medical doctorate from the Medical College of Georgia. She did her internship and residency at Shand's Teaching Hospital at the University of Florida. She practiced with the East Alabama Mental Health Center and the West Virginia State Mental Hospital prior to moving to Macon. Dr. Alderman grew up in Cochran, Georgia and was a native of Rome, Georgia. Dr. Alderman was a member of the Macon Rotary Club, the First Baptist Church of Christ of Macon, the American Medical Association, American Psychiatric Association, Medical Association of Georgia, American Society of Addiction Medicine, the Hawkinsville Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Major William Horton Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Colonists, and National Society Magna Charta Dames.

Dr. Alderman was preceded in death by her husband, Albert B. Gill, and her father, Dr. Louis C. Alderman, Jr. Survivors are her children, Adrian A. Gill and Alison A. Gill, her mother, Anne W. Murphey of Macon, and brothers, Louis C. Alderman, III (Trish) of Big Canoe, Georgia, Fielding D. Alderman, Sr. (Sheryl) of Lilburn, Georgia and Jonathan A. Alderman (Amy) of Macon.

Dr. Alderman wanted memorials to go to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee, 38105, for the wonderful work it does in treating children with cancer and for the work that it did with her son, Adrian or to First Baptist Church of Christ, Building Endowment, 511 High Place, Macon, Georgia, 31201, whose members rallied around her, providing her spiritual, physical, and financial support in her time of greatest need, or to First Baptist Church, 202 Second Street, Cochran, Georgia, 31014, where there are remembered friends who loved her as a child.
