Amagene Crosby Newell

Amagene Crosby Newell, 79, of Dry Branch, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2026. A graveside service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 27, 2026, at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Billy McLean officiating.

Amagene was born on October 4, 1946, in Macon, Georgia, to the late Willie H. Crosby, Sr. and Pauline Kitchens Crosby. She was a longtime resident of Gray, Georgia, where she built a life centered on family, love, and simple joys.

She had a deep love for her grandchildren, who brought her immense joy. Amagene had a special gift for gardening and took great pride in her green thumb. She lived life to the fullest, embracing every moment with a vibrant spirit and a love for bright colors.

Amagene will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Melinda Vaughn (Randall) of Dry Branch, and Sandra Hill (David) of Dry Branch; grandchildren: Amanda Jean Acosta (Will) of Kathleen, Georgia, and Ashley Sheppard (Scott) of Dry Branch; great grandchildren: Ayson Bishop, Gage Bishop, Bella Acosta, Waverly Acosta, Anslee Benton, and Cade Benton; bother, Arthur “Pete” Crosby (Diane) of Jones County; sister, Peggy Land of Gray, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Amagene was preceded in death by her daughter, Jean Gay; and siblings, Martha Ann Crosby, Margaret Bonner, and Willie H. Crosby.
