Alton Reid Hix, Iii

With great sadness, the family of Alton Reid Hix, III, announce his passing at age 90, on October 27, 2024, in Macon, GA. He was a beloved father, husband, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Alton was born in Asheboro, North Carolina, where he spent his formative years and was an exceptional athlete at Asheboro High School. After graduation, he served in the United States Navy and was stationed in San Diego, and on the USS Hornet.

He later became the Truck Fleet Manager for many years at Dunlap Chevrolet and Youmans Chevrolet. In his free time, Alton enjoyed playing golf and was an active member of Riverside Country Club and Healey Point Country Club. He was a lifetime member of Mulberry Methodist Church.

Alton is survived by his children, Bobby Hix (Karen) and Susan Hix Gober (Mark); his grandchildren, Ryan Gober, Allison Gober Biggee (Matt), and Angela Hix Lawson (Matt); and great-grandchildren Thomas, Reid, McKinley Biggee and Winnie and Millie Lawson. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.

Alton was preceded in death by his parents, Alton Reid Hix, Jr. and Clara McAlister Hix; his wife of 60 years, Grace Walker Hix; and brothers William Fletcher Hix and Robert Hix.

A graveside service is planned for Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 11:00AM, at the Asheboro City Cemetery, 146 North Church Street, Asheboro, North Carolina 27203. Family will greet friends for visitation on Friday, November 1, 2024, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, in the Chapel of Hart’s at the Cupola, in Macon, Georgia.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be sent to Family Hospice Foundation, at www.homewithfamily.com.
