Altheda Ella Williams

March 30, 1918 — April 13, 2011

Altheda Williams passed away at Pine Pointe Hospice in Macon, Georgia with her daughter and son-in-law at her side. She was 93 years old.

Born in Leolyn, PA on March 30, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Bert and Lulu Saxon McIlwain. Mrs. Williams graduated from Canton High School in 1936 and married Charles McKean Williams on April 4, 1937. They were blessed with 62 years together until McKean's passing in 1999. Altheda had many talents. Her sewing talent was developed at a young age. After many years of doing what she enjoyed the most, she could look at the latest fashions in store windows, make a drawing, buy material and have the finished fashion in a few days. She developed many other skills when McKean was serving his country in World War II. She had the responsibility of the farm,household chores and raising two children with very little money. She developed her skills in carpentry and over the years remodeled her home mostly by herself. She was the bookkeeper for their trucking business until they retired in 1984. In their motor home they traveled to every state except Alaska and every Province in Canada. She was a member of the Ogdensburg Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She worked with the Canton Area Alumni Association for 50 years. She was a Senior Girl Scout leader for several years. Mrs. Williams was a member of the Junior Civic Club, the Grand Parader Square Dance Club, past president of Penn Coachmen Foretravel Club, past Chaplain of Family Motor Coach Association and a member of the Union Township Historical Society. In 1998 they moved to Fort Worth, TX where their daughter Marceil and son-in-law lived. In 2005 she moved to Macon, GA with Marceil and Tim. On May 29, 2010, Altheda was recognized for her continuous attendance at Canton High School Alumni Banquets since 1936 by the Canton Area Alumni Association.

Surviving are her children: Melvin (Ursula) Williams of Bernville, PA and his children: Rodney(Cindy) Williams of Fairfield, CA, Kelle Williams of Reno, NV, Gregory(Catherine) Williams of Willington, CN, and Tracy Hartington of Bernville, PA; Marceil(Timothy) Hogan of Macon, GA and their children Shawn(Denise) Hogan of Clayton, NC, and Lynnette(David) Poupard of Green Cove Springs,FL; Nine great grandchildren: Ashley Williams, Allie and Lauren McLoughlin of Reno, NV, Megan Williams of Willington, CN, Chase and Ridge Hartington of Bernville, PA, Joy, Holly and Grace Poupard of Green Cove Springs, FL; One step great grandson, Tony Kline of CA; Two great great grandchildren Amiya and Talon Mason; Sisters: Eleanor(Carlton) Wooster of Roaring Branch, PA, Dorothy Wevadow of Harrisburg, PA; Sister-in-law Viola McIlwain of Roaring Branch, PA.

Altheda was preceded in death by her husband McKean, her brother Theron McIlwain, her sisters-in-law Marion Donaldson, Helen Schmeltzle, Mildred Mason, Doris Groover and Harriet Austin. A celebration of her life will be conducted at Pepper Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at 11:00AM with Pastor Bill Shepherd officiating. Interment will be at Grover Cemetery. Visitation will be between 6:00-8:00PM on Monday, April 18, 2011 at Pepper Funeral Home.
