Allen Lee Burke

February 16, 1942 — December 12, 2025

Macon

Al Burke, 83, of Macon passed away on December 12, 2025. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on January 6, 2026, at Hart’s at the Cupola with a private burial at Andersonville National Cemetery at a later date.

Allen Lee Burke was born on February 16, 1942 in Indianapolis, Indiana. As a young man, he dutifully served his country in the United States Army before transitioning to the United States Army Reserves. He then moved to Macon, Georgia, where he spent over forty years and was employed with the Central Georgia Marina for more than two decades, working his way up to a managerial role. Al was also a longtime volunteer with Middle Georgia REACT, an organization which assists first responders in the Macon-Bibb area. Al was widely recognized when arriving at scenes with his big truck decked out in lights and sirens. He found solace in protecting and serving his community. He remained active with REACT for a large portion of his life and befriended many fellow volunteers along the way. In his spare time, Al also enjoyed camping, fishing, and riding motorcycles.

Known for his wit, humor, and off-the-wall Facebook posts, many people called him “Uncle Al”. He made friends everywhere he went and always had a lengthy joke to tell. His friends were amazed by his ability to remember the fine details of each joke. Al will be deeply missed by devoted friends which include other REACT volunteers; many officers with the Bibb County Sherriff’s Office; and his longtime friend and recent caretaker, Kim Seymour. Other surviving friends include Dewey Davis; Mark Shultz; Jack Cleveland; Sheila Lawless; Candy Thompson; Jennifer Peterson; Julie Crooms; J.J. Braddock; and Jimmy and Mona Little. He was preceded in death by close friends Richard Crooms; Skeeter Spradlin; Brooks Peterson; and Richard Lawless. These friendships were each uniquely cherished by Al, and he will be missed every day- most of all by his dog, Marley.
