Alexander “Sandy” Boag Erskine, Jr.

September 9, 1942 — January 14, 2025

Macon

Alexander “Sandy” Boag Erskine, Jr., 82 of Macon, Georgia, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at Pine Point Hospice.  A graveside service with Full Military Honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Barrancas National Cemetery, 1 Cemetery Road, Pensacola, Florida 32508.

Sandy was born in Stamford, Connecticut on September 9, 1942, to the late Alexander Boag Erskine, Sr. and Myra Weinhofer Erskine.  He honorably retired from the U.S. Navy after 20+ years (including two tours on the U.S.S. Lindenwald (LSD-6) during the Cuban Missile Crisis) before continuing to serve his country as a Special Agent with the Defense Investigative Service.

He “retired” to Crestview Florida and became a Realtor with Century 21 Moulton Realty.   His commitment to his country was paralleled only by his devotion to his Christian faith, having been a dedicated graduate of the Brownsville Revival School of Ministry. He also was an active member with Lifepoint Church in Crestview where he enjoyed serving as Deacon, singing in the choir, and attending Senior Adult Sunday School Class and Men’s Monday Morning Breakfast Group.  He served on Church Misson Trips to Scotland and Venezuela.

Sandy and his first wife of 27 years, Sally Ann Turner Erskine, raised their 2 daughters in Fairfield, Connecticut. In his later years, Sandy devotedly cared for his wife Mary Jo, finding joy in the simple pleasures of life such as playing Chickfoot with church friends, visiting grandchildren, reading the newspaper, studying his Bible, and passionately cheering for the New York Mets. He especially loved any opportunity to share his love for our Lord and Savior and spreading the Good News of Salvation.

His last four years were spent in the Macon, GA area to enjoy time with his daughter and son-in-law with boating on Lake Tobesofkee, attending Macon Bacon baseball games, and enjoying eating out at the Fish N’Pig with family.

Sandy will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Deanna Nelsen (Paul) of Lizella, Georgia and Donna Erskine (Michael Cwilichoski) of Shelton, Connecticut; grandchildren, Alexander Nelsen and Daniel Nelsen; and sister, Betty Yanik of Chattanooga, Tennessee. He also is survived by three stepsons, Clay Wilkins (Lorri), David Wilkins (Nancy), Jeff Wilkins (Alisha), one step-daughter, Lisha Wilkins (Dan), nine step-grandchildren, and several step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Jo Wilkins Erskine; and brother, John Erskine.
