Albert "Bert" Ray Purser

June 18, 1970 — June 3, 2020

Mr. Albert "Bert” Purser, 49, of Jones County, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2020.  A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 6, 2020 at the Gazebo at Pitts Chapel UMC at 12:00PM, with Reverend John Haney and Reverend John Irwin officiating.

Mr. Purser followed his father’s legacy as a long-haul truck driver for twenty-six years. Over his wonderful career as owner-operator, he drove over 2 million miles across the country through all but a few of the fifty states.  He also enjoyed building model trucks and cars, a hobby he carried from childhood through the rest of his life.  Mr. Purser was a life-long member of Pitts Chapel UMC.

Mr. Purser’s family describe him as strong and brave; steadfast and dependable.  He was his “mother’s sunshine” and a friend to all who knew him.  Mr. Purser was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Mr. Purser was preceded in death by his father, Ray Purser; his uncle and aunt, Fred and Harbyn Cook; and his grandmother, Elizabeth Cook.

Mr. Purser is survived by his wife, April Purser; daughter, Kaitlyn (Graham) Ferguson, of Athens; son, Jess Purser, of Essexville, Michigan; mother, Bonnie Purser, of Macon; brothers, Austin (Kimberly Williams) Purser, of Monroe, Georgia and Alan Purser, of Macon; nephews, Rob Purser and Hanson Purser, both of Macon; nieces, Skylar Arlynn, of Arizona, Courtney Smith, of Monroe County and Rachel Misner, of Fort Valley; cousins, Leslie (Tab) Brook, of Bolingbroke, Hannah (Kevin Stephens) Cook, of Cordele; mother-in-law, Dianne McDowell, of Fort Valley; sisters-in-law, Temple Hinson and Chelley Nichols, both of Fort Valley.  He is also survived by a host of other loved ones and friends.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his honor to the Pitts Chapel UMC Building Fund or to the Emory Healthcare Adult Congenital Heart Center.
