Adelbert Stephen “Steve” Durkee, Jr, 81, of Macon, passed away Sunday, October 23, 2022. A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM, Thursday, October 27, 2022, at the chapel of Hart’s at the Cupola with Dr. Jimmy Asbell officiating.
Mr. Durkee was the son of the late Adelbert Stephen Durkee, Sr. and Flewellyn Patillo Durkee. Steve was an insurance agent for New York Life, an avid outdoorsman, and a member of Vineville United Methodist Church. Mr. Durkee graduated from Lanier High School in 1959 and attended the University of Georgia where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he earned a medal for being an expert shooter at Fort Jackson. Mr. Durkee was a member of the Macon Civic Club and former member of Idle Hour Country Club.
Steve is survived by his loving wife, Harriett Murphey Durkee; sons, Thaddeus Stephen Durkee (Debbie) and Stephen Murphey Durkee (Katie); grandchildren, MacLaren Anne Durkee, Caroline Murphey Durkee, Stephen Murphey Durkee Jr., and Sara Kate Durkee; sister, Ann Carstarphen (Tee); nieces and nephews, Kem Carstarphen, Lynn Carstarphen, Kathryn Heard Rogers, Milton Heard (Laura), and Michael Heard (Terrie); a great niece, Taylor Carstarphen of Atlanta; and sister-in-law, Sally Murphey Heard (Bill Wheeler).
