Dr. A. M. "Al" Phillips, Jr., 77, of 4919E Rivoli Drive, died Saturday, August 01, 2009. Graveside services will be held at 11:00AM Monday, August 3, 2009 at Riverside Cemetery. Dr. Marcus Tripp and the Reverend Anne Meroney will officiate. Visitation: Sunday from 4:00PM to 6:00PM at Hart's at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road. The family may be contacted at the residence. Phillips, Sr. and the late Julia Green Phillips. He graduated from Lanier High School in 1949. After attending Emory University and Mercer University, he graduated from the Medical College of Georgia. Dr. Phillips served his residency in Orthopedics in Birmingham, Alabama. He served in the U.S. Navy as a recruiting officer for the Macon district. Dr. Phillips was the first Chief of Staff at the Coliseum Hospital. He retired from his private practice, Rivoli Orthopedics, in 1998. He enjoyed visiting St. Simons Island, Georgia where he served as president of Gould Place Condominium Association for many years. Dr. Phillips took great pleasure playing with his grandchildren, Taylor and Caroline Buffington. Dr. Phillips is survived by his wife, Linda Phillips of Macon; sons, A.M. "Phil" Phillips, III and his companion Deborah Mort; and Charles Robert Phillips; stepson, Patrick Brandon Buffington and his wife Tiffany Taylor Buffington; and two granddaughters, Taylor Colson Buffington and Caroline Jon Buffington.
