Ray Latimer died Friday, December 14, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM on Monday, December 17, 2012 in the Chapel of Hart's at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road, with Pastor Troy Dykes officiating. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park. Family will greet friends from 4:00PM until 6:00PM on Sunday, December 16, 2012 at the Cupola. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wesleyan Drive Baptist Church, 939 Wesleyan Drive, Macon, Georgia 31210. Mr. Latimer was born in Atlanta, Georgia on December 20, 1923 to the late A. E. and Effie Belle Latimer. He graduated from Mercer University with a Master's degree in Journalism. He also received his Principal's Certificate from Mercer. Mr. Latimer taught English and algebra at Lanier Junior High School for twenty years. The 17th edition of the school yearbook (Fishbowl) was dedicated to him as advisor in 1967. He served as Principal of Hunt Elementary School for five years and another five years at Walter Jones Elementary before retirement in 1978. Mr. Latimer served in the United States Air Force as a Navigator on B-17 bombers. He was a member of the 351 Bomb Group during World War II, based at Polebrook, near Peterborough, England and flew several missions over Germany. Mr. Latimer was a deacon and head usher at Wesleyan Drive Baptist Church after he moved his membership in 1978 from Cherokee Heights Baptist Church where he had been a member since moving to Macon from Atlanta in 1946. He loved golf and was a member at Bowden Golf Course. Survivors include his wife of sixty-eight years, Edna Valentine Latimer of Macon and daughter, Linda Kees of Decatur, Georgia.
