Lila Brown Poole, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away Friday, September 30,2011, at 6:20 a.m. She was the wife of Thomas Freeman Poole and they had recently celebrated 63 devoted years of marriage on May 30, 2011. She was a native of Wrightsville, Georgia, and the daughter of Alice Drew Brown and Gordon Samuel Brown, Sr. She was Valedictorian of Wrightsville High School graduating class of 1944, and an alumna of Mercer University. She was an inspiration to all who knew her for many special reasons including her many talents, kindnesses of heart and spirit, and incomparable love of language. She was a former owner of several businesses in Macon including Tressie's Beauty Salon on Cherry Street in downtown Macon. She was a teacher, executive assistant to the vice-president of The R.C. Cropper Company of Macon, an insurance adjustor for The Fireman's Fund Insurance Company of Macon, and a Sunday School teacher at Ingleside Baptist Church. She was the eldest surviving member of The Drew family of Waynesboro, Georgia. She is survived by her husband Thomas Freeman Poole, three children, Deborah Poole Johnston of Hilton Head, South Carolina. Thomas Samuel Poole of The Woodlands, Texas, Bobby Joel Poole of Burbank, California, five grand-children, Stephany Johnston of Macon, Georgia, Chandler McGuirk Johnston of Woodbridge,Virginia, Kerry Johnston Walker of Baltimore, Maryland, Wynser Poole of The Woodlands, Texas, Brennan Poole of Huntersville, North Carolina, and two great grand-children, Allorah Drew Walker and Christopher Walker both of Baltimore, Maryland. The family would like to express sincere gratitude and thanks to the entire staff of The Medical Center of Central Georgia for their superb care. The family also wishes to express a heartfelt thanks to the entire staff of The Pine Pointe Hospice of Macon for the peace, tranquility, and exquisite care provided during her final hours. A celebration of her life will be held during a Memorial Service in The Chapel of Ingleside Baptist Church on October 11, 2011, at 10 a.m. Dr. Mark Hudgins will officiate. The family would like for members of her Sunday School class at Ingleside Baptist Church to sit together during the service.
