Gray- Eva Deason Chester, 91, of Gray, GA, died Saturday February 6, 2010. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Hermon D. Chester. Daughter of the late Andrew Jackson Deason and the late Roazy Lee Deason Johns, Mrs. Chester was also preceded in death by sisters Martha Sorrow and Cora Alice Lord and by brothers W.A. Deason, Marcell Deason, Pete Deason, and Jack Deason, Sr.
Survivors include two daughters, Laverne Davis (Bob Hunt) of Gray and Faye Smith (Connie) of Macon; grandchildren Rhonda Johns (Pat) of Kennesaw, Georgia, Woody Smith (Latrelle) of Macon, Kelly Meadows (Andy) of Maryville, Tennessee, Dr. Kevin Smith (Katrina) of Forsyth, Tammy Pinnell (Reggie) of Macon, Stefanie Tate (Michael) of Macon, and Dr. Jason Smith (Tammy) of Macon; 17 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandson.
A native of Wilkinson County, Mrs. Chester was a retired homemaker and a member of the T.E.L. Sunday School Class at Northridge Baptist Church where she had been a member for 56 years. She was a member of the Fort Hawkins Chapter of The Order of the Eastern Star. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother as well as a beloved aunt to all of her nieces and nephews. She will be remembered by all as a loving friend, excellent cook, the famous maker of the pound cake, and a great fishing buddy.
Mrs. Chester will lie in state at the residence of her daughter, Laverne, at 436 Annie's Path Drive in Gray, Georgia where the family will receive friends from 4 to 8 PM on Sunday, February 7, 2010 and on Monday, February 8, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 11AM on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at Northridge Baptist Church with graveside services at Macon Memorial Park on Mercer University Drive. Her body will lie in state at the church one hour before the funeral. Reverend David Mosely, Pastor Chuck Beaver and Reverend David Long will officiate.
