Alton Eugene Byrd, 81, of Gray, Georgia passed away Tuesday, July 01, 2014 in Macon, Georgia. He was born in Manchester, Georgia on July 31, 1932 and is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Clara Byrd of Macon; a sister, Eileen McBride; and brother, Earl Byrd. Alton is survived by his two daughters, Deborah (Steve) Bell and Kathryn (Monty) Neal; his former wife, Jeanette Cain Byrd, all of Gray, Georgia. He leaves behind three brothers, Reginald (Maggie) Byrd, Leon (Irene) Byrd, and Marshall (Merle) Byrd of Macon. God blessed him with five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Alton actively served his country for 10 years in the United States Air Force and proudly shares his experiences from all over the world. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, taxidermy, and music. He played the drums and sang in the band "The Dreamers" for many years. One of our fondest memories is of Dad playing the piano and singing humorous songs at home and family reunions. He loved entertaining! Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2014 from 9:00AM to 10:00AM at Hart's Mortuary at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road in Macon, Georgia. A celebration of his life will follow visitation at 10:00AM at the Cupola with the Reverend Mark Magoni officiating. Interment to follow at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.
