Irene “MamMaw” S. Obernier, 95, of Gray, passed away peacefully Monday, March 18, 2019. The family will have a private Memorial Service at Hart’s Mortuary, Jones County Chapel. Burial will be at Elam Memorial Gardens Cemetery and will also be private.
Irene was the daughter of the late Jesse Leonard and Nellie Shipwash of Harriman, Tennessee. She was a devout Mother to her children and a devout Military Wife to her late husband of 68 years, Myron David Obernier, Jr. She cared for their family while Myron served his country in three wars. She was devoted in service to her Southern Baptist Church in Daleville, Alabama and was an active member of the Eastern Star for most of her life. Irene was a member of the Pilot Club and was a past International Pilot of the Year. She was a large contributor to the Wounded Warrior Project and Veterans of Foreign Affairs. Last, by not least, she and Myron were huge Alabama Crimson Tide fans.
Irene is survived by children, Ronald E. (Lynda) Obernier of Lebanon, IL and Linda (Ronald) Haynes of Gray; grandchildren, David E. (Amber) Obernier of Kaiser, Missouri, Samantha R. (Jack) Rogers of O’Fallon, Illinois, Clyde R. (Lori) Haynes, II of Gray, and Raybon E. (Sherrie) Haynes of Gordon, Georgia; great grandchildren, Cameron D. Obernier, Tyler J. Obernier, Alexandria N. Nash, Brittnay Lantry, Blake Rogers, Christin R.(Kelly) Starling, Clyde R.(Amanda) Haynes, III, Shelby M.(James) Watkins, Courtney A. Taylor, Conner J. Autry, and William Thomas Haynes; great-great grandchildren, Elwin H. Starling, Fletcher E. Starling, Clyde R. Haynes, IV and two more on the way.
