Samuel Mark “Hot Rod” Herndon, 54, of Jones County, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2024. Funeral services will be at Hart’s Mortuary Jones County Chapel, Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 2:00PM with the Reverend Robert Cummings officiating. Interment at Cedar Ridge Cemetery will follow the service. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. The family may be contacted at the residence of Shane and Natalie Herndon.
Mark was a fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and NASCAR and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Family was everything to Mark, and he was always the organizer in getting the family and friends together for birthdays and holidays. He volunteered at Gray Nursing Home for many years and would give the shirt off his back to help anyone in need. He will be remembered for his generous and selfless nature, and for the way he could make friends with anyone.
Mark is preceded in death by his parents, Harvey B. Herndon and Diana Herndon; brother, TsunNan Herndon; and great-nephew, Michael Sarber, III. He is survived by his sisters, Sherryll Herndon of Dudley, Georgia, Lisa Nichols (Lee) of Gray, Georgia; brother, Shane L. Herndon, Sr. (Natalie) of Haddock, Georgia; sister-in-law, Margie Herndon of Macon; nine nieces and nephews, Michael J. Sarber, Katie Carlson (Tyler), Brandon Denton (Hannah), Rebecca Eagen (Zach), Victoria Griffin (Kenneth), Shane “Shae” Herndon, Jr., Samuel Cade Herndon, Mallory Herndon, and Brandon Herndon (Brittany); and six great nieces and nephews, Caleb Eagen, Sophia Eagen, Landon Burnett, Laina Burnett, Aaron Denton, and Braxton Denton.
Hart’s Jones County Chapel, Hart's Mortuary and Cremation Center, 307 Pecan Lane, Gray, GA 31032 has charge of arrangements.
