Mr. James Paul, 86, of Gray, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2024. Funeral services will be at Plentitude Baptist Church, Thursday, March 28, 2024 at 2:00 with the Reverend Tommy Freeman officiating. The family will greet friends one hour before the service. Interment at Plentitude Baptist Church Cemetery will follow the service.
James Paul grew up in Peavine, GA. He graduated from Lafayette High School, attended Berry College, University of Texas, and UGA (where he received his doctorate degree). He met Helen while stationed in Savannah at Hunter. He retired after over 30 years working for the U S Forest Service, followed by working at the Georgia Forestry Commission and teaching at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He was a member of Plentitude Baptist Church in Gray where he was a Deacon, Senior Adult Sunday School teacher, Youth leader, and champion for the Speakers Tournament over the years. He also served as a Gideon.
Mr. Paul is preceded in death by his son, John Paul; his brother; and two sisters. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Helen Barrett Paul; daughter, Maria Paul Brannen (Roger); grandsons, Kyle Brannen and Tyler Brannen (Amber); great-grandchildren, Rhett and Caroline Brannen; special niece and family, Donna Morrison (Mitch), April Hardee (Scott), Slayden Hardee; and several more nieces, nephews and extended family.
