Decatur-June Sims Keys, born in Jeffersonville, Georgia on July 13, 1935 passed away peacefully on February 22, 2013. Mrs. Keys was the daughter of the late James Robert Sims and Elizabeth Sapp Sims. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years James Franklin Keys Jr. as well as eight brothers and four sisters.
Mrs. Keys worked for over 25 years with the federal government as a budget officer in Georgia, Alaska, and Florida. She was past president of the Orange Park Florida Local Association of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a former member of Ridgewood Baptist Church in Orange Park, Florida and Porterfield Baptist Church in Macon, Georgia. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Mrs. Keys is survived by her children, Debra J. Keys of Decatur GA., Donna S. Johns (Joe) of Muncie IN., David F. Keys of Hiram, GA.; grandchildren, Joseph D. Johns, Jr. (Kindra) and Brittany E. Johns of Muncie IN.; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Ann Cannon of Warner Robins Ga., and Mary Harris of Hickory, NC. and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers and staff at Arbor Terrace in Decatur, GA. along with the medical staff of VistaCare Hospice at Emory University Hospital in Decatur, GA. A very special thanks to her brother in-law, Grover Keys, sister in-law, Sondra Keys, and friend Kathleen Rinehart for their loving support of June and her family.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday February 27, 2013 at Harts Mortuary at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Rd. Macon, Ga. with burial at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service. After the interment services, family and friends are invited to the home of Amy and Donny Weiche, 6415 Ponderosa Dr., Macon, Ga. 31216.
