Mary Doris Hitchcock

Macon-Mary Doris Stephan Hitchcock, born March 31, 1917, passed on to her heavenly home on June 23, 2012. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at 12PM, in the chapel of Hart’s Mortuary on Cherry Street. Dr. Tripp Martin will officiate. Burial will be at Middle Georgia Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

She was predeceased by her parents, Laura and Will Stephan, six siblings and by her husband of 63 years, Harold Hitchcock in the year 2000.

Doris grew up in Macon, graduated from Fort Hawkins Elementary School and A.L. Miller Sr. High School. She retired from The Medical Center of Central Georgia.

She taught an adult Sunday School class for many years at Cross Keys Baptist Church, was active in many organizations including Homemakers, XYZ Club and a birthday club until she was in her 90’s. She became a member of Vineville Baptist Church when Cross Keys merged with that church.

She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many.

She is survived by four children: Sandra (and Bill) Bishop, Tucker, GA; Carol Boehm, Macon; Mary Ann Hitchcock, Cleveland, GA and Jimmy Hitchcock, Macon, GA.

Four grandchildren, Sam (and Kimberly) Bishop, Columbus, GA; Missy Rogers, Snellville, GA; Suzi (and John) Stephens, Charlotte, NC and Jim Hitchcock, Smyrna, GA and by seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Doris Stephan, Rock Hill, SC and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Central Georgia at Pine Point, 6261 Peake Road, Macon, GA 31210.
