Macon- Joe Davis, 91, of Macon, died Thursday, June 21, 2012. Services will be held on Sunday, June 24, 2012 at 2:00PM in the Chapel of Hart’s Mortuary, Cherry Street, with visitation from 12:00PM until 2:00PM, just prior to the service. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Mr. Davis was a member of Ingleside Baptist Church and was a former member and deacon at Cherokee Heights Baptist Church. He was born near Welcome Community in Coweta County, Georgia. He was a farmer’s son.

Mr. Davis was a World War II veteran and served a total of twenty-three years in the United States Army. During World War II, Mr. Davis was a member of Troop B, 6th Cavalry Regiment. The 6th Cavalry Regiment was part of General Patton’s 3rd Army and was a leading element in the relief column to the Battle of the Bulge. The 6th Cavalry Regiment won the Presidential Unit citation and took part in five campaigns, including Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe.

Mr. Davis is survived by his two sons, J. Kevin Davis and Joel B. Davis; grandchildren, Chris (Sarah), Jake and Caitlin; great-granddaughter, Milly; his sisters, Jean, Alice and Martel; a brother, Edwin, and nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife of sixty-two years, Frances H. Davis, and his daughter, Emily Hightower.
